Tech Troubles....

Journal Entry: Tue Jun 3, 2014, 7:48 AM

So, I went to use the scanner I got for my birthday last year.

And, it's broken. Like, 100% Dead. I am so pissed off right now that I really honestly feel like throwing in the towel as an artist.

Keep in mind, I'm not the rant about quitting type, but I've just run into so many problems with getting my art really going over the past 10 years that it feels like I'm going to be stuck doing it as a hobby forever and never as an actual career! Computers dying, files getting corrupted, the loss of equipment being stolen, no money for the programs I need to complete projects started ages ago, etc etc. It just goes on and on. Meanwhile I have piles and piles of drawings stacking up and no way to scan them.

Now, I know most people would be like (but you're drawing) Yeah, but I can't draw background art because I suck at it. My comic characters live in an empty white world. Plus, what good is drawing the comics if I can't make copies or color the work digitally? Yeah, I can color by hand with pens, paint, crayon, whatever cheap supplies I can get my hands on. But, I was spoiled with digital software. I can change the colors on a whim if I feel like it. If it was hand colored I would have to redraw or print out an uncolored copy to color again. (again, to do the second, I would need a scanned copy to print!)

I can't even bribe with REAL MONEY other artists to help me draw the backgrounds or color the work for me so I can actually make some sort of progress. It's like, "Here, real money! Just color these 5 pages...." and they're like "No, I wanna STAY a STARVING and PENNILESS artist." Really? Freaking really?

I am so super discouraged right now. :-( I'm getting to the point where I feel like I really should just give in and do the mommy at home thing and just let Emerald Angel Comics die in peace already. It's suffering and in pain and I just need to humanely cut the life support. It's cruel to keep hanging on to something that's been dead for a long time already.

Chrissy!

First of all, what a piece of shit scanner you have to last only a damn YEAR.

Second, you're an awesome artist but even artists have shit luck (I've been having less creative luck for months, can't do backgrounds and shit like that). If you want to do what's right, it's your call.

It didn't last a year because of out side .... influences.... I discovered my toddler, Teddy, was climbing up and dancing around on top of it. Facepalm

Mark is talking about buying me a scanner sometime soon. Meanwhile, all I can do is draw.

Oh dear. :( They need to make scanners that are baby proof.

And awesome! Hope you get a new one soon.

Me too. Unfortunately, getting a vehicle just hit the top priorities on the list as of .... this weekend. My husband blew a tire on the highway and his car wrecked. The car was called a Total Loss by the insurance company and we have to replace it. I am so thankful that he wasn't hurt. The tread peeled off the tire and he fishtailed off the road at 65 miles an hour.

However, I convinced him to take my big 4 door Buick and find a family van for me and the kids. He agreed! *fist pump* Yes! Dragging my mini army around will be so much easier if I can find a good one. :-D

It wasn't luck and this is the second time actually. Right after I had the baby, he wrecked the truck in the snow and ice and it flipped over in a ditch on the side of the highway. The truck landed in such a position in just the right spot, where if it had landed any other way, the cab with him inside would have been crushed. The cab of the pickup wasn't even harmed and no glass was broken. The rest of the truck was crushed.

This is very sad to hear, because you are a good artist. But I can relate I don't have a scanner at all. My best advice is go with what you think is right.

I probably won't quit. I am extremely frustrated. But, I can find ways around it. .... Eventually!
